My initial reaction to the recording :
When I first watched the recording I was quite impressed with the quality of the solo that I performed. My vocals were strong throughout the whole solo, However I believe that I could have shown a bit more confidence when it came to singing the section at 1:31. When it comes to the smart targets that I had set myself, I found that they have both improved a lot more than I originally thought and I am quite impressed by how far they have both come, Especially my articulation as I could clearly hear every word I was saying when I was performing the song. When it comes to my stage presence however, I feel that I could have moved around a lot more than I did as I seemed to be stationary for most of the solo. So to improve my performance, I feel that I need to use my space more effectively to make the solo more visually interesting and engaging for the audience.
Overall, I believe that my Mock solo went quite well, and the quality of the performance was to quite a high standard.
What went well in the performance :
When it came to what went well in this performance of my solo, I felt that My articulation was done to a very high standard. This is good as it means that my audience would have been able to understand every word that I was saying, and this is very important when trying to tell a story to an audience through a song. Along with this, another thing that I felt went well in my solo performance was my breath control. This is as at certain points in the song where I had to hold and note and/or phrase on for a long time, I was able to sustain the quality effectively.
What do I need to work on :
When it comes to what I feel that I need to work on in terms of my solo however is the stage presence element of it. I believe that I need to work on this due to me being quite stand still during my solo. Due to the nature and style, jazz, of my solo there needs to be some sort of movement to reflect the feel of the solo. So I wish to work on this further to help make the performance not only engaging, but feel more flowy when it comes to my movements linking to what I am singing. Along with this, I feel that at certain points my breath control could be improved further, as some notes I started to become weaker on holding them.
Feedback from Lois on my performance :
"From The Start - Laufey:- Lovely vocal delivery, Chloe. You were mostly technically accurate throughout but make sure you keep the end of notes sustained and really support with your diaphragm as some of those phrases are quite long. Consider your facial expressions and how you convey the meaning of the song. Can you have more movement in the song and use the stage more? Think about dynamics and how you can build during the song. Your pitching was much better than solo one in this - you've clearly worked hard on this. Use the stage more too as this performance has that lovely latin rhythm to it so convey that in the song. Support 'thinking of you' near the end more too as it went a bit out of tune."
Class mate reaction + Feedback :
When it came to the Feedback and reaction of my class on my Mock recording, I found that the song that I sung was liked by most of my class due to it being quite contrasting in style compared to what everyone else was doing. I was told by one of my peers that It sounded very nice and was a very pretty song that suited my voice well. However, I was told that I needed to think about using my space more so that I could make the song more visually engaging.
