Ensemble singing lesson #1
In todays lesson, we explored more into ensemble singing as a class and this was through splitting into harmony groups and singing through two songs.
We started the lesson off by doing a vocal warm up and a physical warmup to make sure that we would not risk any injuries while we were singing. Some examples of the warmups we did included : Breath in for 4, hold for 4 and our for 4 - tongue twisters - me may mi mo moo - e's - long "sss" sounds.
After we did this we then went on to learning our first song, somewhere only we know. When doing this we had spilt up into three different harmony groups - alto, soprano and tenner - In which we all learn our harmony bits for certain parts of the song. When we did it, I was on the alto part, which was also the melody of the song. So when it came to singing the song along with the other harmony groups I found it quite easy and not to hard to get confused when singing along side them.
However in the second song I was in the soprano group - which is the higher female voice group. I chose to do this as for this song it felt more fitting for my voice, however it did come with some challenges. For example, learning the harmonies I had to sing were not a struggle, but once we put them together with everyone else I found it a lot more difficult to stay on the right harmony line. After discovering this issue, I wanted to improve on this - I did this by going over my part and trying to tune my hearing to focus just on my group.
As I have done a lot of ensemble singing in the past I did not learn to much new, But this lesson was also mainly a test lesson on some songs that we could sing for future concerts and also to deepen our knowledge on singing in an ensemble setting.
Overall, I enjoyed todays lesson and it helped me learn more about myself as a vocalist.
