Mock Solo 1st of Feb

In todays lesson me and my class all performed our Mock versions of our solos in which we were able to get a feel for the stage for the first time along with the lighting and the way it is set up. In my opinion, todays lesson was very informative and allowed us individually be able to highlight any problems with our piece, for example the staging or lighting, whilst also being able to perform them to a camera. So by doing this mock it has allowed us to perfect our solos for when it comes to our proper recordings of them. Not only has it allowed this but it also gives us a backup recording for if we become ill on the day of our proper recording or if we mess up due to nerves.

How I felt my solo went :

Before my solo I was very nervous as I was the first one up and had not yet performed in that set up before. However, despite my nerves, I believe that I performed the piece well, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement. I am yet to see the video of me performing my solo, so I am unable to judge fully how it went from a perspective of a recording, however I feel like I performed to the camera quite well with little to no errors when it came to what I was singing and how I was singing it.

Personal Strengths + Weaknesses :

When it comes to my two main focuses of improvement from the start, Stage presence and breath control, I believe that they have both massively improved from how they started out. For example, when it comes to stage presence I am swaying less on my feet and am now able to stay more grounded whilst singing and also move around the stage in character. When it comes to breath control I am now able to sustain some of the more belt style note that I couldn't before as I know when to breath to allow me to give these notes as much power as possible.

When it comes to the solo overall, I believe my strength is in the singing of the solo. This is as I am able to sing it technically accurately with only minor mess ups. However, If I wanted to make this strength even stronger, I would like to practice singing some of the notes as I find in the moment I hold back on them.

When it comes to my weakness when it comes to my solo, I would say that it is my stage presence. This is as I find myself standing for to long or slowly moving between my feet over the duration of the solo. So to improve this, I plan to spend more time focusing on how I can stage the solo to allow its meaning to come across effectively to the audience.

Teacher Feed Back:

When it came to the feed back I received from my teacher it was quite varied. To start off, I was told that I had sung the song very well and I had stopped swaying as much during it and now the staging had become clearer. The main piece of feedback that I had received was that I needed to now focus on the way I was singing the solo and add more power and emotion to some of the words I am singing to allow its meaning to be able to be read by an audience.
