Six tech week!
This week was our final week before we took our production of six to the stage and was a very busy week for everyone who helped to put the show together. Although it was a very busy couple of days when we were doing our tech and dress rehearsals, we still all enjoyed them as much as we could and made use of our time to improve our stage skills as we practiced to preform on stage.
DAY ONE (9:30 - 17:00):
Today was most of the casts first time in seeing the stage complete and fully set up, and it was very impressive to see the standard that the stage was made at and I was personally in awe at how nice the stage looked, and it got me very excited to perform the show that we had been working on to the masses. At the start of the day we were all sat down and talked through the safety percussions and also walked around the set do that we could get used to where things were and where we could safely exit and enter.
After we had done this we then went ahead and got into our costumes and did a vocal and physical warmup to make sure that we were fully warmed up before we preform so that we could prevent injuries. After this we all sat down for a while as the tech team begun to to sound check on mics and also the band, for the band it included the metronome that they would hear so that they could keep in time. This did take up quite a long time but once it was done it meant that we could finally put our production on to the stage.
When it comes to what we did for the remainder of our tech rehearsal we began staging each number one by one so that the tech team could set up the lights and make sure that they were working in time for each of the numbers.
Personally, I believe that we used our tech rehearsal today effectively and we manage to get through the whole show in the limited time that we had. I was blown away with the speed that the tech team worked at when it came to setting each number with lights and effects and left the tech run feeling confident in what we had done.
What I would like to improve on next time we come do a run through is my patience as I found it hard to focus on occasion.
WARM-UPS FOR TODAY
When it came to the warmups we did today, we did our "run boy run" warm up for our physical warm up, this includes doing 8 counts of star jumps, then 8 counts to twists, 8 counts of spotty dogs and 8 counts of skips - we did this for all 3 mins of the song.
For the singing warm up, we started off doing head rolls and shoulder rolls to make sure our body was warmed up and then massaging our face muscles to make sure that they were nice and relaxed. After this we then went on to doing basic breathing exercises where we had to breath in for 4, hold for 4, then breath out for 4 - we then did this for 4, 6, 8. Once we had done this we did some tounge twisters and then some syringing of the word "sing" so that we could warm up our whole range. After this we did so scales using our vowels and then some number warmups, "1 1 2 1 " , so that we could work on our pitch and diction.
DAY TWO (9:30 - 17:00)
Today was our second tech run before we preform tomorrow to schools and I believe that we left this tech run at a very good quality place so that we were ready to perform the next day.
We all had to get there early today so that we could get our costumes on and do our hair and makeup ready to do a couple of fully run-throughs with the band and all the lighting and technical stuff. Once everyone was ready we all did a vocal and physical warm-up which was lead by our dance and singing captains for the show. Both of the warm-ups left me feeling well stretched and warmed up, ready for us to do our run throughs. We did our first run through shortly after we had warmed up, and it went quite well and smoothly. There were a couple minor errors when it came to sound ques and lighting ques but other than that it went perfectly. As this was my first time running the show fully on stage without stops, I had to get used to it quite quickly and believe I did so very efficiently.
After our first full run through we then went on our lunch break before we swung into the motion of our next run.
Our next run was a lot slower as in this run the tech team wanted to record the lighting cues down so that it would be easier for them when it came to doing the tech side during the actual shows. This took a lot longer than I expected, but this time I was a lot more patient and used any time that I was not doing anything to go over other numbers that I was in.
In this tech day, I believe that I improved on my patience and all I want to improve for the next day is my confidence when it comes to performing on stage.
WARM-UPS FOR TODAY
When it came to the warmups we did today, we did the cha-cha slide as our physical warmup. This, in my opinion, effectively warmed up our bodies whilst also making us all full of energy and have a more positive outlook for the day as it was fun to do.
Along with this we did some songs that we sung in groups so that they over lapped, today we did "panther on the run way", This was our first ever time doing this one and it was very fun to do even though it took as a while to pick it up.
