FINAL SIX BLOG
Six is now over and finished so here is a review of the improvements that I have made while doing this show.
When it comes to Six, it was a quite demanding show to do in terms of singing as the whole show is pretty much told through song, so this meant that I would have to be singing throughout the whole show. At the start of the rehearsals when we started to do Six my singing confidence was quite low, and I was not fully confident with my abilities when it comes to singing. But as we began to sing more often and practicing the songs I slowly became a lot more confident when it came to my singing.
Along with confidence being something I gained from doing Six, I also gained skills when it came to working together with others in a ensemble. At the start, as I didn't know anyone it was hard for me to break out of my shell, which meant signing together was hard for me. But the more we worked together and sing together the more I became confident allowing me to break out of my shell. While learning with Lois, I learnt a lot more skills when it came to easier ways to sing in choir like groups.
Strengths + weaknesses
When it came to my singing in six I had some clear areas that I was better at while I had some that need improving.
One vocal strength that I had when it came to Six was my ability to project my voice whilst also doing dance at the same time. I believe that since I started six my ability to dance and project improved a lot as I felt a lot more stable in my ability to project whilst also dance.
Another strength that I had when it came to singing in Six was that I was able to remember my harmonies well and project them confidently. When we had just started Six, I was not that confident when it came to my harmonies and what they were, and with this I realised that I was singing a lot more quietly. But as time went on and I remembered and learnt my vocal harmonies I became a lot more confident in my ability to sing them out, which in turn helped with my projection.
One weakness that I had when it came to Six was my ability to stay on my harmony line. I found that in Ex-wives I was switching between altos and sopranos line very often and not just sticking to my own harmony line. Over time when we were doing the shows it got a lot better, however i feel that it still needs to be improved. I am planning to do this by doing more ensemble harmony work to try and train myself into not switching between different harmony lines.
Another weakness that I have noticed that I have when it comes to singing is my breath control as I seem to breath randomly when singing, So this is something that I wish to improve.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNT
When it comes to six, it has helped me learn ways that I can improve my ability to sing harmonies when it comes to big group songs that deal with multiple lines of harmonies. I am glad that I took part in Six as it has helped improve my confidence and also my ability to sing in ensemble group settings.
When it comes to targets that I wish to set myself so that I can improve my singing along other projects that we do, I wish to improve my breath control and also my confidence in singing certain notes as I find notes that I have less confidence in singing I find it harder to project.
